YELAPA is located just South of Puerto Vallarta (PVR) the only realistic way to get here is by boat, water taxi or "Panga". When you fly into PVR take a taxi from the airport to the "Yelapa Hotel Lagunita Office" at "Los Muertos Beach". The good folks at the Yelapa Office will assist you with your water taxi tickets, luggage storage while you wait, they have internet access, a telephone, a washroom and they will help you with any other information you may need. We highly recommend you buy your water taxi tickets at the office to ensure you get the right tickets, on the right boat for the right price.

We can also arrange for "Airport VIP Pickup", this is a great service for the same price of a regular taxi. The driver, Hugo, has a van with lots of room for passengers and luggage. He will be waiting for you when you arrive with your name on a sign. He will help expidite you and your luggage through the airport mayhem and get you quickly on your way. It can be a real stress relief to have him meet you and take care of you on arrival. He is also in contact with the water taxi office and can even arrange to have them hold the boat a few minutes if you are running late. If you want to make a pit stop along the way, to pick up something like groceries or that special item, he can do that too. This service is also available if you are going from the airport to a hotel.

Note: The pier at Los Muertos is under construction and the water taxis are loading from the beach. Be prepared to get your feet a bit wet. Updated Jan 2012. Still no pier.

Another option for catching the water taxi to Yelapa is to travel a bit further by cab to Boca de Tomatlan; the water taxi drop off point of the locals. The cab ride is a bit longer but the water taxi ride is much shorter. Depending on how many people the extra cab fare can be offset by the cheaper water taxi fare. They also have a good pier at Boca making it easier to get on and off the boat. The water taxi schedule out of Boca is more frequent than Los Muertos, the last boat to Yelapa leaves at 6:30 pm. There is a great little Cantina right by the pier with cold beer and good washrooms if you have to wait a bit for the next boat.

Note: There is no ATM at Boca de Tomatlan, you need to get your pesos before you leave Puerto Vallarta. Remember bring pesos to Yelapa not US dollars.

If you prefer we can also arrange a private boat to pick you up and transport you over to Yelapa. This is great for groups, VIP service or for late arrivals.

IMPORTANT: For more detailed information about how to get here and what to bring, among other things you may need to know about YELAPA, go to page thirteen of this web site - "Things to Know and More Details about Yelapa". This page will provide you with answers to most of your questions and help you plan your trip. We are also available by email to help answer any other questions you may have.

If you are looking for good deals on airfares I found www.flightcentre.com to have some of the best price comparisions and some great last minute sell off's.

We would like to suggest that you research your accommodation prior to booking your flights. If not you may find yourself committed to a plane ticket and then find out the place you want to stay at is not available on the same dates. Also please keep in mind that in high season the last water taxi leaves Los Muertos Beach at 6:00 pm, if your flight arrives after 5:00 pm you will most likely have to stay over one night in PVR. Not the end of the world but a good thing to know.

While you are waiting for your water taxi at "Los Muertos Beach" there is a wonderful little restuarant right on the beach next to the pier. “Cuates y Cuetes”, kind of the Yelapa Bus Depot; great food, great drink and great service. Sit back ... relax ... watch the waves come in and start getting into Mexican Time.

Note: There is no ATM in Yelapa, this is your last chance to pick up your pesos. Remember bring pesos to Yelapa not US dollars.
